v0.8.1 through v0.9.4) shipped this week. Headline: a
new three-mode dispatch so a single MCP server can target local, remote,
or Comfy Cloud — plus a v1 agent sidebar inside ComfyUI itself.
New features
Comfy Cloud + explicit remote mode
comfyui-mcp now ships a three-mode dispatcher:
- Local — the default, spawning ComfyUI on your machine.
- Remote — point
--comfyui-urlat any non-loopback host and the server skips local auto-detection, so a stale local install can no longer absorb uploads/downloads meant for a remote box. - Cloud — set
COMFYUI_API_KEYand HTTP-backed tools route tocloud.comfy.orgwithX-API-Keyauth. WebSocket and local-filesystem tools surface a clearCLOUD_UNSUPPORTEDmessage instead of failing silently.
COMFYUI_CLOUD_URL env var lets you override the cloud endpoint.
See Configuration → Deployment modes and
Installation for setup recipes per mode.
health_check tool
A new mode-aware health_check reports whether ComfyUI is
reachable, what models/custom nodes are visible, and (in local/remote
modes) recent log tail. Useful as the first call from an agent before it
starts a long-running job.
Also includes an upstream fix for search_custom_nodes so registry
searches return results again.
Embedded agent sidebar (experimental)
TheCOMFYUI_MCP_AGENT_POC backend now has a frontend half: a v1
ComfyUI sidebar tab that streams chat responses and renders tool cards
end-to-end for generate_image. Drop the extension file into
ComfyUI/web/extensions/, point it at your tunnel URL + bearer token,
and chat to your local ComfyUI from inside the canvas. Still
experimental — not part of default startup.
Updates
get_job_status works in cloud mode
get_job_status now dispatches through the cloud client when
COMFYUI_API_KEY is set, mapping cloud job states
(pending / in_progress / completed / failed) to the same shape
local jobs return. Completed jobs are still enriched from history;
failed jobs surface the cloud’s error via exception_message.
See Workflow execution.
Slimmer default install
Seven heavy packages moved tooptionalDependencies and are now
lazy-loaded:
@aws-sdk/client-s3,@azure/storage-blob— only loaded when you actually use S3 / Azure storage.cloudflared,ai,@ai-sdk/anthropic/google/openai— only loaded by the experimental agent panel.
npm install --no-optional now yields a working core server. Calling a
feature whose optional dep is missing surfaces the exact
npm install <pkg> hint instead of crashing on import.
Repositioning vs. official Comfy Cloud MCP
Comfy-Org announced an official Comfy Cloud MCP (closed beta). The README, home page, configuration, and installation now framecomfyui-mcp as the community
MCP for local + remote ComfyUI, with cloud mode positioned as a
complementary option when you want a single MCP across all three.
AI-agent install guide
A newllms-install.md at the repo root gives Cline (and similar
agents) a focused, bot-facing setup recipe covering Node 22, the three
deployment modes, Claude Code / Cline / Cursor settings, and common
issues.
Fixes
- Docker image builds unblocked. The
cloudflaredpostinstall was hanging Docker builds on rate-limited networks (notably the Glama build sandbox, which had pinned us at v0.7.1). The binary is now fetched lazily on first use, and image builds complete in ~95s. upload_image/upload_video/upload_audioare now strictly HTTP-only, so they no longer write to a stale local install when you’re targeting a remote ComfyUI.- pnpm builds pass cleanly again — TypeScript declaration emission
was tripping
TS2742on pnpm’s nested store paths.dist/now contains only.js+.js.map, which is all CLI consumers ever needed. - Vitest bumped to 4.1.x to clear
GHSA-5xrq-8626-4rwp.
Infra
The hosted docs site briefly went down mid-week when thecomfyui-mcp.artokun.io DNS record was deleted on the Cloudflare zone.
Service is restored, and there’s now a written runbook so the next
operator can recover in minutes instead of re-deriving the diagnosis.
